2024 Libertarian Presidential Candidate Jacob Hornberger Critiques US Foreign Policy and Advocates for Whistleblower Rights

Libertarian Presidential candidate for 2024, Jacob Hornberger, recently appeared on a new episode of Going Underground where he articulated his critique of the United States’ foreign policy, and expressed his support for whistleblowers Edward Snowden and Julian Assange. He also expounded on his agenda should he secure the presidency.
Challenging the Status Quo of US Foreign Policy
Hornberger, a staunch advocate for non-intervention, elaborated on his views regarding the violence of US foreign policy. He argued that the bipartisan support for destructive foreign interventions has resulted in unnecessary wars, loss of lives, and increased hostility towards America. He further expressed his concerns about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, viewing it as a proxy war between Russia and NATO, with the US offering substantial support to Ukraine. Hornberger’s stance on foreign policy underscores his approach of prioritizing diplomacy over military action, a departure from traditional American policy.
Upholding the Rights of Whistleblowers
Hornberger also touched upon the contentious issue of whistleblowing, citing the cases of Edward Snowden and Julian Assange. He criticized the US government’s treatment of these individuals, arguing that their actions exposed government overreach and were in the public interest. His comments reflect growing concerns about the free speech implications of prosecuting whistleblowers. Snowden, a former National Security Agency contractor, famously leaked classified documents in 2013 revealing global surveillance programs. Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, faces potential extradition to the US on charges of espionage and hacking government computers.
Hornberger’s Presidential Agenda
When discussing his agenda as a potential President of the United States, Hornberger emphasised his commitment to individual liberties and non-aggression, pillars of libertarian philosophy. His proposed policies would be aimed at reducing government interference in both domestic and foreign affairs, with a particular focus on rolling back interventions that he perceives as harmful or unnecessary.
Libertarian Critique of Trump’s Indictment
The Libertarian National Committee Chairwoman, Angela McArdle, also made headlines recently by criticizing the indictment of former President Donald Trump. She stated that questioning election results is not unusual, referencing past candidates who refused to concede elections and demanded recounts. McArdle expressed concern over the Justice Department’s focus on Trump while seemingly disregarding accusations against President Biden. This sentiment encapsulates the Libertarian Party’s skepticism towards the federal government and its operations.
