Lithuania Reaffirms Support for Ukraine amidst Ongoing Conflict

 

President Nausėda Assures Continued Assistance to Ukraine

Gitanas Nausėda, the President of Lithuania, recently held a meeting with the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation to discuss Lithuania’s ongoing support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and democratic development. He reaffirmed Lithuania’s commitment to Ukraine, expressing hope for the nation’s continuing path towards membership in the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Focusing on Ukraine’s Security Situation

The meeting concentrated on the security situation in Ukraine, primarily Russia’s ongoing aggression and human rights violations in the annexed Crimea and eastern Ukraine. The transformation of Ukraine’s security and defense sector was also a significant point of discussion. President Nausėda emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s continued reforms, particularly in the rule of law, justice, anti-corruption measures, decentralization, and the security sector.

Lithuania’s Continued Support for Ukraine’s EU and NATO Aspirations

The Lithuanian President welcomed Ukraine’s eagerness for closer integration with the EU and NATO. He stated that Lithuania would continue to appeal to the international community regarding Ukraine’s aspirations. Nausėda also pledged to maintain the sanctions against Russia until the complete restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Practical Assistance and Expertise on Reforms

President Nausėda noted that Lithuania would continue to provide practical assistance to Ukraine, especially in healthcare and education. He met with the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian Parliament, Dmytro Razumkov, to discuss bilateral relations, inter-parliamentary cooperation, and the implementation of reforms in Ukraine. Lithuania expressed readiness to share its experience and provide expert assistance in implementing necessary reforms.

Lithuania Reiterates its Support for Ukraine

In summary, Lithuania has reiterated its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and aspirations for EU and NATO membership. The meeting between the Lithuanian President and Ukrainian parliamentary delegation emphasized Ukraine’s security situation, necessary reforms, and Russia’s ongoing aggression. Lithuania pledged to continue rallying international support for Ukraine and maintaining sanctions against Russia. Practical assistance in healthcare and education was also assured, along with the readiness of Lithuania to provide expert assistance in implementing reforms in Ukraine.
