Destruction in Lviv: Russian Kamikaze Drones Hit Window Factory and Humanitarian Aid Warehouse

Factories and Warehouses Ablaze

The Fakro window factory in Lviv, a subsidiary of the Nowy Sącz-based company, was targeted in a night attack by Russian kamikaze drones. The production hall and a series of ready-made roof windows were destroyed, according to Fakro’s president, Ryszard Florek. An estimated 2,000 roof windows were burned in the warehouse, causing significant financial damage.

Fortunately, no factory workers were harmed during the attack. However, the production hall and a warehouse, partially allocated to Caritas Lviv, were burned down. The warehouse was filled with approximately 2,000 windows ready for installation, all of which were lost to the flames.

Humanitarian Aid Lost in the Attack

In a devastating blow to ongoing humanitarian efforts, 300 tons of gifts equivalent to 15 humanitarian transports were destroyed in the Caritas-Spes Ukraine warehouse in Lviv. The goods, lost to the flames, included power generators and parcels for Ukraine from Poland. The organization is now launching a new collection for those in need.

The mayor of Lviv, Andrij Sadovyi, reported that the Russian night attack on Lviv, carried out using kamikaze drones, resulted in the death of a man working in the bombarded industrial warehouse.

Extent of Destruction

Following the attack, the fire spread over an area of almost 10,000 square meters. In total, three warehouses were destroyed, including the window factory warehouse. The destruction also included chemical products and humanitarian aid collected by the Caritas-Spes organization. Mayor Sadovyi confirmed that the goal of the Russian shelling was not military targets.

Unmanned Aerial Attacks on Lviv

Earlier, the authorities of Lviv and the Lviv region, as well as the air forces of the Ukrainian army had reported that as many as 18 out of 30 unmanned aerial vehicles that attacked Ukraine at night were targeted at the Lviv region. The attack resulting in a significant loss of property and supplies vital for the people in the region.

Global Condemnation

International condemnation has followed the attack, with the United Nations’ Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine, Denis Brown, expressing strong disapproval of the Russian airstrike. Brown noted that attacks on humanitarian facilities in Ukraine have increased over the past year, affecting those in dire need of humanitarian assistance. She emphasized that “Humanitarian workers, facilities, and assets are protected by international humanitarian law. Direct or indiscriminate attacks are strictly prohibited. International humanitarian law is not a choice; it’s an obligation that must be adhered to.”
