Bristol’s Clean Air Zone (CAZ) has come into force today. Drivers of vehicles that do not comply with the emissions levels will have to pay a charge ranging from – £9 to £100.
Residents and those visiting the city center will have noticed signs and cameras being placed throughout the city center in preparation for the big opening day.
The £9 charge is for private cars, taxis, and light goods vehicles and £100 for heavy goods vehicles, buses, and coaches. Bristol City Council estimates about 70% of vehicles will not be charged.
The CAZ is designed to curtail air pollution in the city by charging those driving older – and thus more polluting – vehicles in the city center.
