The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) recently unveiled an internet app through which residents can file complaints.
The “UHRC APP” web app is primarily aimed at persons in remote areas who are unable to travel to their headquarters in Kampala to submit concerns.
“This app is a one-stop shop for information about the commission.” It is no longer required to go from Arua to Kabala to find the UHRC headquarters.
“The app includes a feature for regularly asking queries. “Through this app, people in rural regions will have access to all they need,” said Mr. Byonabye Kamadi, the commission’s director for research education and documentation, yesterday.
Since the app will primarily be used by people who live outside of Kampala, there are worries about how those living in rural areas will be able to access the Internet and file complaints.
In response, Mr. Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku, State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, stated that the government would work on the Internet challenge. Ms. Mariam Wangadya, the commission’s chairperson, stated that the app would allow users to enjoy, protect, and recover their rights when they are violated.
“It is real-time information interchange and engagement; speedier complaint lodging without having to first visit to offices.”
