The authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have arrested multiple suspects after a video of people engaging in lewd behavior at a wedding went viral.
The Sharjah Police official stated that nine men and two women were arrested, warning residents against posting such videos that may offend the community or go against local customs.
According to UAE law, this behavior is a crime punishable with imprisonment and fines ranging from Dh250,000 to Dh500,000.
Offenders who produce or publish pornographic material or material against public morals or good conduct will face imprisonment and fines.
Those who feature minors or tempt them with such content could face up to a year in prison and fines ranging from Dh150,000 to Dh500,000.
Article 19 of the UAE Cyber Crime Law penalizes anyone guilty of coercing another to engage in indecent activities, with prison sentences and fines ranging from Dh250,000 to Dh1,000,000 and jail terms of up to five years.
The penalty for engaging in lewd behavior in public is up to six months in jail and a fine of Dh5,000.
Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jalaf, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai Police, stressed that such behavior is unacceptable and goes against Emirati society’s values.
He added that Dubai Police will not tolerate such actions and urged residents to respect the country’s customs and traditions.
