Gang Targets Unsuspecting Buyers with Deceptive ‘Car Wrap’ Method

In a significant breakthrough against cybercrime, the Anti-Cyber Crime Branch of the Provincial Police Department carried out a meticulously planned operation across four provinces in Adana on May 22. The target was a notorious gang that had defrauded 14 innocent individuals seeking to purchase vehicles through a deceitful scheme known as the ‘car wrap’ method. This elaborate scam had already resulted in losses of a staggering 16 million TRY.

Swift Arrests and Seizures Unveil the Gang’s Operations

The operation unfolded precisely as the police teams simultaneously conducted raids at multiple locations. The outcome was resounding, with 11 suspects, including the gang’s ringleader S.D., apprehended during the coordinated crackdown. A thorough search of the suspects’ residences yielded evidence, including numerous bank account cards, mobile phones, and SIM cards registered under various individuals’ names.

Following the necessary procedures at the police station, the suspects were promptly brought before the courthouse to face justice. It was determined that gang leader S.D. and six other individuals had played integral roles in the fraudulent activities, leading to their subsequent arrest. Meanwhile, the remaining suspects were released under strict travel restrictions, ensuring their availability for further investigations.

The modus operandi employed by the gang involved preying on individuals interested in purchasing vehicles. The perpetrators would present an enticing offer where the buyer seemingly receives a car wrapped in an eye-catching design. However, beneath the appealing facade lay a web of deception.
