Fire Incident at Taichung Secondary School: Swift Action Prevents Casualties
A Blaze Breaks Out Near Taichung Secondary School
A significant fire incident occurred in the afternoon in a metal residential house situated close to the side entrance of Taichung Secondary School in the North District Cultural Street, Taichung City. The fire led to the total annihilation of the house and further extended its damage to two neighboring metal houses. School staff initially reported the incident, stating that thick smoke was emanating from the roof of the school’s warehouse.
The firefighters received an emergency call and promptly intervened to control the fire, preventing any injuries. The school later confirmed that the warehouse, the source of the fire, was indeed school property. Consequently, the school administration decided to dismiss school early at 4 pm.
Emergency Response and Fire Control
The Second Police Substation revealed that the school staff reported the fire at 1:49 pm. In response, the jurisdictional police were dispatched to block and guard the area. The Taichung Fire Department immediately sent the Seventh Brigade and four jurisdictional units, amounting to a total of 16 fire trucks and 49 firefighters, to rescue the scene. The fire was under control by 2:12 pm, and no casualties were reported.
The Warehouse: School Property and the Fire’s Source
Initially, it was thought that the metal house, not located within the school campus but adjacent to the side school gate, was merely connected to Taichung Secondary School. However, the principal of the school, Ou Jingyu, confirmed that the burning building was indeed school property. It was primarily used to store desks, chairs, and repair equipment of the General Affairs Office. Following the incident, the school decided to cancel the eighth period after-school tutoring course and dismissed the entire school at 4 pm.
Disaster Prevention Drill to the Rescue
Principal Ou Jingyu highlighted the significance of the recently concluded 921 disaster prevention drill. This training evidently played a crucial role in the swift evacuation of the school after the fire broke out. The entire school was evacuated within 10 minutes, ensuring the safety of all teachers and students. The drill proved instrumental in managing the crisis efficiently and minimizing potential harm to individuals and property.
