SRF’s “Die Sendung des Monats” – A Fresh Take on Swiss Political and Social Commentary

A New Show on the Swiss Broadcasting Scene
The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRF) has recently launched a new show titled “Die Sendung des Monats” (The Show of the Month). This late-night show features Gabriel Vetter alongside actress Fabienne Hadorn and comedian Sven Ivanić as hosts. Unlike its predecessors, the show aims to offer a fresh perspective on Swiss political and social life, with a focus on humor and satire.
Sharing the Spotlight
Breaking away from the conventional host-centric structure, Vetter ensures equal distribution of the spotlight among the three main protagonists. With an ensemble of experienced actors and comedians, the show aims to create an engaging blend of humor and commentary. The premiere episode aired a variety of skits and segments, including a 1000-second summary of the month’s events and a series of regional news presented by Ivanić and Hadorn.
Variety and Humor: A Mixed Reception
The show’s diverse skits ranged from a tribute to rural Switzerland to an excursion to the Swiss Ploughing Championships. However, the humor was not always well-received. Some viewers felt that the jokes were often lacking in punch, leading to a mixed reception of the show’s comedic elements.
The “Gebührenzahler des Monats” Segment
One of the show’s segments, “Gebührenzahler des Monats,” features a unique concept where Moritz Schädler spends a viewer’s SRF TV license fee of 335 Francs in a single day. However, the segment’s success is yet to be determined as the inaugural participant from Möhlin, Aargau, was as reticent as the farmers in the ploughing championships segment.
Professional Hosting and Positive Chemistry
Despite some content-related issues, the show’s professional hosting and the positive chemistry between the hosts were noted as positives. The show’s timing was also praised, along with the potential brought by the two experienced actors, Ivanić and Hadorn. A spoof weather report presented by representatives of political parties was among the most successful skits.
A Promising Future
The show had a successful launch with room for improvement, particularly in terms of its humor. However, the strong chemistry between the hosts and their adept handling of the show’s timing offer a promising future. As the show continues to develop, it is expected that it will fine-tune its approach to deliver a unique blend of humor and social commentary that resonates with its audience.
