Super-complaint launched against police over their approach to stalking

A super-complaint was launched against police over their approach to stalking across England and Wales. The National Stalking Consortium claimed they are failing to identify offenders.

The Consortium, comprised of 21 stalking specialists including frontline services, has collated evidence that suggests there are deep-rooted systemic issues across police forces that are putting many victims at risk.

Only 5% of reports of stalking to the police in the year ending March 2022 resulted in a charge by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Clive Ruggles, whose daughter was killed by an ex-boyfriend who stalked her, said better training was needed so officers could “do the right thing”.
