Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, recently met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to discuss various topics related to the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The talks were focused on issues such as the construction of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant, the establishment of a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, and the expansion of air service between the two nations.
During the meeting, Manturov highlighted the importance of developing humanitarian and industrial cooperation relations, as well as addressing issues related to education. He also noted that many Egyptian students are currently studying in Russia.
In addition, the discussions also included the construction of the nuclear power plant, which requires several amendments to the intergovernmental agreement. The establishment of a free economic zone was also on the agenda, along with issues related to tourism and the expansion of air service.
The talks between Russia and Egypt come on the heels of the first round of talks on free trade zone between the EAEU and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in March. In December of last year, the Ministry of Economic Development announced that talks on a free trade zone with Indonesia would begin in early 2023. The EAEU is also conducting negotiations for free trade zone projects with countries such as Israel, Iran, and India.
The discussions between Russia and Egypt demonstrate the continued efforts of the EAEU to strengthen its relationships with countries in the region and beyond, and to promote greater economic cooperation and integration.
Overall, the talks between the two countries represent a significant step forward in the development of their bilateral relationship and could lead to increased economic cooperation and trade in the future.
