Madagascar's Infrastructure Development Recognized on the Continental Stage

Madagascar came into the spotlight on the opening day of the AfDB Group's Annual Meetings, held under the theme "Mobilizing Private Sector Finance for Climate and Green Growth in Africa." Over 3,000 participants from the AfDB's 81 member countries are attending this continental event in Sharm el Sheikh. President Andry Rajoelina was bestowed with the Super Prix Grand Bâtisseur – Babacar NDIAYE Trophy 2023 during the Africa Road Builders (ARB) Selection Committee's annual meeting in Senegal on April 28.

The committee, comprising approximately twenty journalists from various African countries, considered the 2023 report of the Media Network for Infrastructure and Finance in Africa (MIFA), public reports from international institutions and organizations focusing on African roads and transport, as well as relevant publications in the field.

Madagascar Experiences Infrastructural Development

President Rajoelina's commitment to infrastructure development in Madagascar, including the Iarivo ring road, played a significant role in his selection for the prestigious award. The financing agreement for the Iarivo ring road was signed in Paris in 2011 during the transitional period between President Andry Rajoelina and former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Additionally, the expansion of Ivato International Airport contributed to this recognition. These infrastructures prioritize accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility, incorporate car parks and pedestrian signage, and enhance transport connectivity in rural areas to boost agricultural productivity, improve the economy, and uplift the lives of the population.
