A young Palestinian man was killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank amid simmering tensions as the Tel Aviv authority stepped up its crackdown on the growing armed Palestinian resistance.
Yazan Omar Jamil Khasib, 23, passed away on Friday in the West Bank “after the Israeli troops opened fire on him at the northern entrance of al-Bireh,” close to Ramallah, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
He was reportedly taken into custody by Israeli soldiers while in critical condition, but a few minutes later, he passed away from his severe gunshot wounds.
The Israeli army barred a Palestinian ambulance and medical personnel from the location where the young man was initially reported injured.
The Israeli forces detained Khasib’s body for two hours before handing it over to the Palestinian side.
Israeli authorities “identified a suspect and asked him to identify himself,” the Israeli army claimed in a later statement. It was also alleged that the suspect then drew a knife, and Israeli troops opened fire and “neutralized” him.
It was added that the murder happened close to Beitin, a Palestinian village close to al-Bireh. The alleged encounter did not result in any injuries to Israeli forces.
