In a major success against illegal arms trafficking, the police have foiled an attempt to smuggle a large cache of weapons into the city. According to the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Shariq Kamal Siddiqui, the accused had attempted to smuggle the weapons by affixing a fake government number plate on the vehicle, but the police were able to catch them in time.
The recovered weapons include 21 modern rifles, 4 Kalashnikovs, 5 Dragoon guns, 94 pistols, 35 Kalashnikov magazines, and 114 gun magazines. In addition, 157 pistol magazines, 55 spare parts, and over 40,000 bullets were also seized. The vehicle in which the weapons were being smuggled has also been taken into custody.
RPO Shariq Kamal Siddiqui stated that a case has been registered against the two arrested accused and further investigations are underway to determine the source of the weapons and the intended recipients. This successful operation by the police is a significant blow to the illegal arms trade and sends a strong message to those involved in such activities.
