Pachuca FC Welcomes Sevilla’s Former Player Oussama Idrissi

Idrissi Joins Pachuca for Apertura 2023
Pachuca Football Club in Mexico has announced the acquisition of Oussama Idrissi, formerly attached to Sevilla, for their Apertura 2023 squad. The Morocco-dutch player was formally introduced to the audience during the half-time interval at the Tuzos versus Santos Laguna match. In addition to his debut, Idrissi also conducted his first interview with the team.
Before choosing to venture into Mexican football, Idrissi sought advice from Santiago Giménez, his ex-teammate at Feyenoord. Giménez’s positive insights about Pachuca played a pivotal role in Idrissi’s decision.
“Conversing with Santiago was crucial. He relayed the fervour for football in Mexico and specifically in Pachuca,” remarked Idrissi. He also solicited Giménez’s thoughts about the club and was buoyed by the positive feedback. Idrissi noted that he had conducted his homework about the team and was eager to participate.
Idrissi’s Football Journey: From Europe to Mexico
Born on February 26, 1996, in Bergen, the Netherlands, Idrissi is a renowned footballer with dual Moroccan and Dutch nationality. His European football journey began at FC Groningen, where his talent caught the eye, leading him to transfer to AZ Alkmaar. After establishing himself as one of the Eredivisie’s most promising wingers, he moved to Sevilla FC, where he contended at the pinnacle level in LaLiga. His career also included stints with Ajax, Cádiz, and Feyenoord.
In the international arena, despite representing the Netherlands at the youth level, Idrissi chose to represent the Moroccan National Team in the senior category.
Idrissi’s Two-Year Contract with Pachuca
Idrissi, aged 27, was available on a free transfer following the termination of his contract with Sevilla in Spain. A potential return to Feyenoord, where he spent the previous season on loan, seemed to be on the horizon. However, when Feyenoord acquired Luka Ivanusec and Ondrej Lingr, his return became unnecessary.
The Moroccan international has signed a two-year contract with Pachuca, the seven-time Mexican champions, and will sport the No. 5 jersey. Idrissi is expected to inject fresh energy into the team, which has had a challenging start to the Apertura 2023, securing only six points from seven matches, positioning them 16th out of 18 teams.
Idrissi’s Style: A Player in Ziyech Mould
A right-footed winger who is most comfortable on the left flank, Idrissi is reminiscent of international teammate Hakim Ziyech, although he is less technically gifted than the Galatasaray player. He is also slightly quicker than Ziyech.
At club level, Idrissi has tasted most success in the Dutch league, where he has not only played for Feyenoord, but also Ajax, Groningen, and AZ Alkmaar. The 27-year-old has been considered one of the league’s top players in his position. However, his spells in Spanish football with Sevilla and Cádiz – the latter on loan – have been less fruitful.
In the previous season, Idrissi netted four goals and supplied six assists in 27 Eredivisie appearances as Feyenoord clinched the 16th Dutch championship in the club’s history. Idrissi was also an Eredivisie and Dutch Cup winner with Ajax in 2020/21.
