Kim Jong-un, the leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), has stated that his country should be prepared to use nuclear weapons at any time to prevent war, reports the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
The remarks were made amid increased tensions between North Korea and the international community over its nuclear program, which has led to several nuclear tests in the past, attracting international sanctions and condemnation.
The DPRK conducted military exercises on March 18-19 to enhance its tactical nuclear capabilities.
According to the DPRK, the military exercises were aimed at sending strong warnings to Washington and Seoul.
Kim Jong-un emphasized the importance of maintaining a robust military deterrent to safeguard the sovereignty of the country. He urged his military to be prepared to use nuclear weapons if necessary to defend against any potential aggressors.
The DPRK has persistently maintained that its nuclear program is vital for national defense and that it has no intention of using nuclear weapons offensively. However, the international community is worried about the possibility of a nuclear arms race in the region and the threat of nuclear conflict.
Kim Jong-un’s recent remarks underscore the need for diplomatic efforts to address the North Korean nuclear issue and prevent further escalation of tensions.
