Global Attention and Concern

Kim Jong Un’s trip to Russia drew widespread global attention, primarily due to the infrequency of the North Korean leader’s travels outside his country. However, a more pressing concern for many is the potential for military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, including the possibility of arms trade and technology transfer. These concerns led South Korea to summon Russia’s ambassador with a warning against any such military cooperation with North Korea.

South Korea and the United States have expressed that any military cooperation between North Korea and Russia would be a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, and both nations have strongly advised against such cooperation.
