Ohaneze’s Initiative to Address Insecurity in Nigeria’s South East

The Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, under the leadership of President-General Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has made a firm commitment to addressing the ongoing security issues in Nigeria’s South East region through non-violent means. This decision comes at a critical time as the region grapples with escalating violence. The group has set its sight on appealing to those instigating violence in the region to embrace peace and put an end to the bloodshed. This significant announcement was made during a World Conference organized by the group, setting a hopeful tone for the upcoming September 29 Igbo Day Celebration in Enugu.
According to Iwuanyanwu, the distressing wave of violence in the region can be attributed to desperation, unemployment, and hunger. He expressed profound sadness over the bloodshed and killings, emphasizing that the responsibility of ensuring security in Nigeria is a collective task that extends beyond the Federal Government. Iwuanyanwu believes that it is crucial to understand the root cause of the issue in order to implement effective solutions.
Non-Violent Approach to Insecurity
During the Igbo Day Celebration, the President-General plans to unveil the specifics of the non-violent approach to curbing insecurity in the South East. He stated his readiness to make any necessary sacrifices, including risking his life if need be, to ensure peace in the region. This bold stance is a testament to his commitment to peace and stability in the region.

In an effort to implement this non-violent approach, Iwuanyanwu intends to send delegations to various places, both locally and abroad, to plead with those causing violence in the region. The goal is not to retaliate, but to create an open dialogue and offer alternatives to violence. This includes providing opportunities for those who are unemployed to earn a living and resolving political disagreements among the region’s leaders to foster unity and progress.
Appeal to the Federal Government
Finally, Iwuanyanwu made a strong appeal to the federal government to aid the region by reconstructing railways, establishing seaports, and building more international airports to facilitate business and stimulate economic growth. He emphasized the importance of sustainable solutions like providing opportunities for individuals to earn a living rather than offering temporary relief like food aid. This, according to him, is a more meaningful approach to addressing the root cause of the violence.

The commitment made by the Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide to address the security issues in Nigeria’s South East region using non-violent means is a significant step towards peace and stability. The group’s approach of understanding the root causes of the issue, initiating dialogue with the instigators, and appealing for assistance from the federal government in creating sustainable economic opportunities presents a hopeful prospect for the region. The success of this approach would not only bring peace to the South East region but could also serve as a model for other regions grappling with similar issues.
