The ad hoc staffs of Nigeria’s electoral bodies have allegedly begun to arrive in various locations for the State governorship and national assembly elections. “At exactly 7.30am today, our officials had set up the ECWA Polling Unit 004, Olla, in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, waiting for registered voters,” the commission confirmed in a Twitter post.
Following a dramatic presidential election that received mixed reactions from stakeholders, Nigerians are now preparing to vote in governorship and state house of assembly polls. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has implemented a new biometric technology for verifying voters, which enabled the transmission of results electronically.
Of the 36 states, governorship polls will be held in 28, with the remaining eight states scheduled to vote off-season due to litigation and court judgments. The PDP and LP, who were runners-up in the presidential election, have expressed dissatisfaction with the process and plan to challenge it, but the INEC has stated that the technical glitches have been resolved.
