Nigerian Police warn political thugs and others in Southeast Nigeria to abstain from violence and thuggery during and after Saturday’s elections.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-East, Mr. John Amadi, gave the warning on Thursday, emphasizing that anyone who disrupts the elections should be ready to face the consequences, including death.
He urged citizens to come out and vote for their preferred candidates, assuring them of adequate police protection. Amadi said that, “Anybody that wants to snatch ballot boxes or disrupt the elections will be promptly dealt with. We have deployed our men to dominate all the areas that we think trouble would erupt from.”
“So we are sounding a note of warning to criminals and non-state agents that we would not tolerate anything that would not allow the people cast their vote and chose who they want to represent them,” he added. The police have deployed their personnel to strategic locations to prevent trouble and urged non-state agents to avoid anything that would disrupt the election process. Amadi urged people to cast their vote, go home, and wait for the results.
