According to a Foxconn source, over 20,000 employees have left Apple supplier Foxconn’s Zhengzhou plant in China, the majority of whom were new hires who had not yet worked on the production line.
The departures, according to the source, would complicate the company’s previous target of resuming full production by the end of November, following worker unrest at the world’s largest iPhone factory. The worker departures come after the Taiwanese company offered 10,000 yuan ($1,396) to employees who wanted to resign and leave the chaos-plagued plant on Thursday.
It had apologized for making a pay-related “technical error” when hiring new recruits, which workers claim was a factor in protests that included clashes with security personnel.
