Two dead and eight were injured in a fatal National Guard vehicle accident in Chiapas

A traffic accident on the Arriaga-Ocozocoautla de Espinosa toll road, in the state of Chiapas, left two people dead and eight injured, among them five members of the National Guard.

The events reportedly occurred at kilometre 29 of the Arriaga-Ocozocoautla de Espinosa highway in the state of Chiapas, when the National Guard patrol belonging to the 20th Battalion was conducting a security and surveillance patrol in the area.

Ambulances and paramedics from the Red Cross of the region arrived to attend to the emergency and transported the injured, with internal hemorrhaging, to nearby hospitals.

Also present were members of the National Guard, the Mexican Army and members of the State Attorney General’s Office.

The security agency has already initiated an administrative process, and the national guardsmen who were travelling in the vehicle have been handed over to the ministerial agency for clarification of responsibilities.
