Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office confirmed that it has an open investigation into a death threat against the country’s president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
On October 7, revelations obtained from a hacked email from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) revealed a death threat against López Obrador.
According to the document, leaked by the hacker group Guacamaya, the events took place on February 8, 2019, and were perpetrated by a gang of fuel thieves, also known as “huachicoleros”, whose leaders were former military personnel.
When questioned on the matter, President López Obrador dismissed the threats against his life and assured that the people are protecting him, so “there is nothing to fear”.
“The people are my guardian angel,” the president said. On Wednesday, the president revealed that Indira Vizcaino, the governor of the state of Colima, had been threatened by members of organized crime and detailed that the official has the protection of the security forces.
