Mexican National Guard rescued 41 migrants aboard a truck in Veracruz

The Mexican National Guard rescued 41 migrants who were being transported under inhumane conditions aboard a truck in Veracruz.

The truck was travelling exactly on the Puebla-Córdoba highway, where the National Migration Institute and the National Guard identified 11 Nicaraguans, 3 Hondurans, 2 Ecuadorians, 9 Cubans, 6 Salvadorans and 10 Guatemalans among the Central American foreigners.

Upon searching the truck, the National Guard found dozens of migrants crammed together. When the Mexican authorities approached them to provide assistance, the migrants indicated that they had been locked in the trailer box for several hours, without ventilation, food or water.

The driver and the unit were handed over to the Attorney General’s Office in Coatzacoalcos. The detection of migrants has become recurrent due to the fact that many human traffickers use desolate roads to circumvent security operations carried out on high-traffic highways.

Attempts to cross the border from Mexico into the United States have claimed thousands of lives in both countries in recent decades.
