López Obrador met with Gustavo Petro at the National Palace

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, was welcomed to Mexico by his counterpart Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the National Palace.

Among the main topics of Petro’s visit is the migration situation of Colombians residing in or visiting Mexico, as well as the treatment of Colombian tourists at Mexican airports. For this reason, Petro will hold a meeting at the Colombian Consulate in Mexico City for a personal review of the situation.

Petro, who arrived Thursday night, spoke to the Colombian community in Mexico, where he referred to the anti-drug policy: “the American balance from Alaska to Patagonia in the last 50 years is a disaster”.

The Colombian president reiterated his thesis that the fight against drugs has failed and therefore urged the Mexican government, and its counterparts in other nations, to work together on a strategy to deal with the situation.

“We want to call on Mexico to join us in holding a conference of presidents at the highest Latin American level on a change in drug policy,” Petro said.
