Massacre Shakes Village of Agua Bonita in Guaviare: Three Lives Lost, Including a Minor

The Colombian Police has confirmed that in the early hours of this Sunday, June 4th, three individuals, including a minor, were murdered in the village of Agua Bonita along the road that leads from El Retorno to San Jose del Guaviare while they were inside an establishment.

According to authorities, a group of individuals were engaged in conversation when two individuals arrived on a motorcycle. These assailants entered the establishment and began firing indiscriminately using a firearm.

The victims have been identified as Yimer Aldair Garcia Bocanegra, a 46-year-old individual, Yamile Zabala, and a minor under the age of 15. Additionally, the owner of the establishment, identified as William Ospina, sustained injuries and has been transported to San Jose del Guaviare Hospital for medical treatment.

Collaborative Investigation Underway: Authorities Seek Justice for Agua Bonita Massacre Victims

During a radio interview, Colonel Alexander Obando Sachez, the commander of the Guaviare Police Department, highlighted the collaborative efforts underway to address the tragic incident. He affirmed that the National Police, in coordination with the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation and the Government of Guaviare, had issued instructions to promptly investigate and bring clarity to this homicide, which has deeply saddened the Guaviare community.

The responsible individuals behind this crime will face prosecution for several offenses, including conspiracy to commit an aggravated crime, trafficking, manufacture, or possession of narcotics, as well as trafficking, manufacture, or possession of firearms or ammunition. The investigative team, including a prosecutor and members of the Judicial Police from Bogotá, are in route to the municipality to provide vital support and expertise in conducting a thorough investigation. These collective efforts demonstrate their unwavering commitment to swiftly resolving the case and ensuring justice is served for the affected community.

Reward Offered for Information on Agua Bonita Massacre as Investigators Mobilize

In a bid to expedite the resolution of this case, the authorities have announced a reward of up to 20 million pesos for any information that assists in uncovering the truth behind these events. Additionally, it has been confirmed that the First Front, also known as ‘Armando Roos’, of the Central Staff of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (EMC FARC-EP), is responsible for the crimes committed in this area. The authorities are actively pursuing leads and cooperating with relevant agencies to bring those involved to justice and ensure the safety and well-being of the affected community.

The massacre takes place amidst ongoing government efforts to initiate peace talks with various armed groups as part of the 'total peace' initiative.
