Algeria welcomes all initiatives to unify Libya

At a meeting with Libya’s Minister of State for Women’s Affairs, Houria Tarmal, Ibrahim Boughali, the Speaker of the Algerian National People’s Assembly (APN), affirmed Algeria’s long-standing policy of non-intervention in Libyan affairs.
This policy emphasizes respect for Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and opposes external meddling in the nation’s issues.
The meeting, which also included Kawthar Krikou, Algeria’s Minister of National Solidarity, Family, and Women’s Issues, was part of Tarmal’s working visit to Algeria.
Backing Peaceful Initiatives
Algeria’s approach towards Libya includes support for initiatives aimed at unifying the Libyan people and their official institutions, while still respecting Libya’s sovereignty.
Boughali highlighted that any solution to the Libyan crisis should fall within the framework of international legitimacy and United Nations charters, implying a preference for diplomatic and peaceful means of resolving conflicts.

Solidarity During Hard Times
The meeting between the Algerian and Libyan officials was not only about political relations. Boughali expressed his condolences for the recent floods in Libya, signaling Algeria’s solidarity with the Libyan people during these challenging times.
This sentiment is reflective of the deep-seated connections between the two nations, which go beyond political alliances.

Libyan Appreciation of Algerian Support
For her part, Tarmal expressed her appreciation for Algeria’s continual support of Libya. She emphasized the unique bond between the two nations, and thanked Algeria for its solidarity during their ongoing ordeal.
Tarmal also expressed her government’s intention to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in various areas, signaling a shared ambition for closer ties between the two neighbors.
