The third batch of Kenyan Special forces arrives in Goma

JUST IN: #BNNKenya Reports. On Saturday, the third set of Kenyan soldiers (a special unit of the Kenyan army) arrived at Goma with military supplies. According to a Kenyan officer, they are there to confront M23’s insurgencies and establish peace and security.
African officials agreed at a summit this week in Angola that if the rebels do not leave the occupied area and stop attacking, operations against the M23 armed organization will be launched in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by a newly deployed East African army.
However, the mission, which aims to “enforce peace” in the eastern DRC, has not yet been fully deployed, and there are still uncertainties around its budget, safeguards for civilians, and how it will work in concert with an ongoing UN peacekeeping presence.
Concerns about the East African force have also been expressed by civil society organizations and activists in the Democratic Republic of the Congo who are aware of previous interventions during which neighboring nations sponsored militias, hoarded mineral wealth, and committed numerous human rights violations.
