Iranian specialists use ‘CAR T-cell therapy’ to treat children diagnosed with cancer using gene therapy.

A team of Iranian specialists, for the first time, applied a different unique way ‘CAR T-cell therapy’ to treat children diagnosed with cancer using gene therapy. Amir Ali Hamidiyeh noted that the model was localized and used in the country only 4-5 years after its use worldwide.

The chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is a way to get immune cells called T cells to fight cancer by changing them in labs. CAR T-cell therapy is also sometimes talked about as cell-based gene therapy because it involves altering the genes inside T cells to help them attack cancer.
