According to Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, the situation in the western Himalayan region of Ladakh between India and China is unstable and hazardous, as their military forces are positioned in close proximity to each other in certain areas.
In mid-2020, a clash between the two sides in the region resulted in the death of 24 soldiers. However, through rounds of diplomatic and military talks, the situation has been calmed.
Despite this, violence erupted in the eastern sector of the undemarcated border between the two nations in December, but fortunately, there were no fatalities.
External Affairs Minister of India, Mr S Jaishankar stated at an India Today conclave that the current situation between India and China in the western Himalayan region of Ladakh is still fragile and dangerous due to close military deployments in some areas.
He emphasized that the border dispute must be resolved in accordance with the September 2020 in-principle agreement that he reached with his Chinese counterpart for India-China relations to return to normal.
