Atul Malhari Gotsurve: A New Chapter in Mongolia
The current Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India, Atul Malhari Gotsurve, has been appointed as the next Ambassador to Mongolia. His wealth of experience in both the engineering and diplomatic sectors makes him a fitting candidate for this essential role. Gotsurve will be succeeding MP Singh and is expected to assume his new duties shortly.
Tracing the Path to Diplomacy
Atul Malhari Gotsurve’s journey towards his current appointment has been marked by significant accomplishments in both engineering and diplomacy. After acquiring Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Engineering from Pune, he served as a Civil Engineering Lecturer in the same city. His expertise led him to the position of Assistant Director at the Central Water Commission in New Delhi, where he was responsible for the design of various dam projects, including those in Bhutan.
Gotsurve’s diplomatic career began in 2004 when he joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). His assignments included tenures in the Indian Embassies in Mexico and Cuba. During these stints, he handled a variety of portfolios such as political, commercial, trade and investment promotion, culture, and consular affairs. His diverse experience in these areas greatly contributed to his diplomatic acumen.

Contributions within the MEA
Within the MEA, Gotsurve worked in the Latin American and Caribbean Division from 2010 to 2014 in different capacities. This experience further broadened his understanding and handling of diplomatic affairs. From 2014 to 2017, he served as the Regional Passport Officer of Pune in Maharashtra state. This role allowed him to contribute directly to the public, further enhancing his administrative skills.
Recognition and Achievements
Gotsurve’s stellar performance in his roles has not gone unnoticed. In 2018, he was conferred with the Special Recognition Award by Sarkaritel.com for being one of the youngest Ambassadors of India. His representation of India at several international conferences has further cemented his reputation as an accomplished diplomat. These recognitions underscore his significant contributions to the IFS and are testaments to his expertise and skill in diplomacy.
