As a massive fire engulfed shops in the Chandni Chowk area’s Bhagirath Palace market on Friday, Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg announced that a large portion of the main building had been severely damaged.

According to officials, the fire started in one shop and quickly spread to others that sold electrical appliances. The wholesale market fire, according to reports, destroyed more than 50 shops.

The “situation is not very good,” according to Garg, and at least 40 fire tenders worked tirelessly to extinguish the flame. He claims no one was injured in the incident. To extinguish the flames, the fire department had to use remote control fire fighting machines.

Former Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan stated that the main building, which caught fire, is slowly collapsing due to the two floors being completely damaged.

According to the fire department, a call was received at 9:19 p.m. on Thursday, and at least 30 people were injured.
