On March 25, 2023, Athens celebrated the 202nd anniversary of the Greek revolution with a spectacular military parade, showcasing the country's military prowess and paying tribute to its heroic past. The main attraction of the parade was the maiden flight of the Rafale, a French fighter jet that soared over the Athenian skies in a breathtaking display of speed and agility. The F-16 Viper and Apache helicopters also made impressive flyovers, showcasing the country's airpower.

However, the most significant addition to this year's parade was the premiere of the Marder 1A3 armored fighting vehicles, which were received last October as part of an agreement between Greece and Germany. The vehicles are expected to enhance the combat capabilities of the Greek Army's motorized infantry units and increase their interoperability with armored units.

The Evzones Presidential Guard also made an appearance, as they do every year, impressing the audience with their immaculate marching and tapping of their feet. The Evzones, dressed in their traditional uniforms, symbolize Greece's rich cultural heritage and the sacrifices of the nation's ancestors.

In his statement at the end of the parade, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the importance of reflecting on the nation's history and paying tribute to its heroes. He emphasized that national independence is a necessary condition for social cohesion and progress, and that it is the responsibility of every Greek citizen to show themselves worthy of the sacrifices made by their ancestors.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the shadow of the great tragedy that loomed over this year's celebration of national independence and the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. He stressed the need for historical reflection and learning from the tragedies and triumphs of the Greek people.

Overall, the Greek Independence Day Parade in Athens was a proud display of the country's military might and cultural heritage, while also serving as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Greek people to achieve independence.
