According to the Ghana Meteorological Agency’s 2022/2023 dry harmattan season advisory, which was dated November 24, 2022, and was signed by the agency’s acting director general, Eric Assuman, “from December 2022 to February 2023, the number of dry weather conditions, cloudless skies, and hot days across most of the country will gradually increase.”
However, the agency warned that there would still be sporadic times of moisture influx, particularly for coastal towns and cities, which might lead to one or two rainy days.
It stated how the season would typically be characterized by the suspension of small dust particles and aerosols.
For Ghana’s Northern and Transition Zones, rather cold nights and mornings are predicted.
It was predicted that early morning mist and fog patches would be common in most places in the southern to the transitional region of the country, including inland water regions such as lakes, rivers, ponds, and streams.
It went on to say that during this time, “dry and hazy weather conditions with different intensities are forecast across much of the country with an increase in hotspot activities in the country’s fire-prone areas.” It also predicted relative humidity values to range between 15% and 70%.
Therefore, the statement urged everyone to handle open flames carefully, especially hunters, cigarette smokers, and wine tappers.
Additionally, it urged people to drink enough water to stay hydrated, moisturize their bodies to prevent cracked skin, and wear protective clothing.
