Poland has initiated the registration process for free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations for girls and boys aged 12 and 13. Parents and guardians can enroll their children through the Internet Patient Account, directly at healthcare facilities, or via the hotline 989.

The HPV vaccination program will commence on June 1, 2023, and participation is voluntary. The commonly used vaccines in the program are Cervarix and Gardasil 9. Both vaccines require a two-dose regimen, with a recommended interval of 6 months between doses. The second dose should not be administered later than 12 months after the first dose.

In 2023, the vaccination campaign will target children born in the years 2010 and 2011. Children who fall within this age group and have already received their first dose of the HPV vaccine outside the program can receive their second dose as part of the official program.

Cervarix and Gardasil 9 Vaccines Administered in Two Doses

The introduction of free HPV vaccinations for 12- and 13-year-old children in Poland is a significant step towards preventing the spread of the Human Papillomavirus, which can cause various types of cancer, including cervical, vaginal, vulvar, anal, and oropharyngeal cancer. By offering these vaccinations, Poland aims to protect its young population from the potential long-term health effects associated with HPV infections.

The HPV vaccine is considered safe and effective, with numerous studies demonstrating its efficacy in preventing HPV-related diseases. By vaccinating both girls and boys, Poland aims to achieve herd immunity, where a significant portion of the population is immunized, reducing the overall prevalence of the virus and protecting those who are not vaccinated.
