The second National Vocational Skills Competition in Tianjin, China, came to a resounding conclusion on September 19th, 2023. After four days of rigorous competition, representatives from Jiangsu emerged as the top achievers, securing 13 gold medals, 14 silver, 16 bronze, and 93 excellence awards. The competition, which is the highest standard event since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, attracted 4,045 contestants from 36 different delegations across the nation.
Medals Across Diverse Fields
The gold medals bagged by Jiangsu participants spanned various fields, demonstrating the wide range of skills and expertise within the team. The areas of excellence included concrete construction, electrical installations, fine woodworking, industrial machinery, water treatment technology, chemical laboratory technology, business software solutions, baking, sugar art/pastry making, CAD mechanical design, and industrial robot system maintenance.

Spotlight on Gold Medal Winner
One of the gold medal winners, Tian Run, a 19-year-old from Jiangsu Urban and Rural Construction Vocational College, triumphed in the field of concrete construction. Tian attributed his success to his consistent performance and minimal errors during the competition. His teammate, Zhou Yangfeng, spoke highly of Tian, praising him for his exceptional resilience and hard work, often training from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Reflection of Manufacturing Transformation
The competition marks a significant milestone in China’s manufacturing transformation and upgrade as the scale of the manufacturing industry expands. It included 20 new professions and digital technology skills projects such as all-media operations and internet marketing. This addition reflects the contemporary evolution of the industry, with new disciplines requiring multiple skills, including robot operation technology, computer programming, and visual system control.

Champions in New Professional Project
Yang Dinghongyang and Wang Cunwei, teachers from Changzhou Technician College, clinched the championship in the new professional project of industrial robot system maintenance. This accomplishment underscores the importance of embracing new technologies and constantly updating skills to stay relevant in the fast-paced world of manufacturing and technology.
Overall Impact of the Competition
The National Vocational Skills Competition is renowned for featuring the most competitive projects on the largest scale and at the highest skill level. With 142 participants from Jiangsu participating in all competition projects, the event was a testament to the talents and skills that exist within the nation. It also served to inspire and motivate other participants and observers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, skill enhancement, and excellence.
