China Commemorates 92nd Anniversary of the September 18 Incident

Reflecting on a Tragic Part of History
China recently commemorated the 92nd anniversary of the “September 18 Incident,” also known as the Mukden Incident, marking the start of Japan’s invasion of China. The event took place at the Crime Evidence Exhibition Hall of the Japanese 731 Corps, the unit that spearheaded the invasion. Despite the rain, more than 500 people gathered at the ceremony to pay their respects. Attendees included police officers, corporate employees, medical staff, and students, all taking a moment of silence to honor the historical significance of the event.
Unveiling Historical Materials
Part of the commemoration involved unveiling newly discovered historical materials, including a roster of Japanese military medical officers. These documents add to the growing body of evidence documenting the crimes committed by Imperial Japan during their occupation of China. The event also featured guided tours of the exhibition, led by tour guides from Harbin City Friendship Second Elementary School, who recounted the numerous atrocities committed by the invading forces.
Education and Remembrance
Among the attendees was a fifth-grade student, Li Jingyi, who has visited the museum more than 20 times. She expressed her wish for more people to understand this part of history, emphasizing the importance of education in preserving and passing on the memory of these historical events to future generations. The sentiment was echoed by other attendees who emphasized the importance of remembering the tragic history and the hardships endured by the Chinese nation.
Learning from the Past
Dong Chen, a worker from China Aviation Development Harbin Dongan Engine Co., Ltd., pointed out the importance of learning from history. He emphasized that remembering the past is crucial to contributing to the rejuvenation of the nation and encouraged everyone to strive hard in their respective positions. The sentiment resonated with the attendees, serving as a reminder of the historical events and atrocities committed during the invasion.
Preventing History from Repeating Itself
The event served not only as a commemoration but also as a warning against the repetition of such incidents. The newly unveiled historical materials are considered significant additions to the historical evidence of the crimes committed by the invading Japanese forces. This event demonstrated how the memory of historical events can be kept alive through education, fostering an understanding of the past that can help prevent similar atrocities in the future.
