This evening, the largest school board in Ottawa will virtually meet to finally decide whether to reinstate mask requirements in classrooms. A special meeting of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board was held on Tuesday, but due to disruptions from opponents of mask mandates, no decisions were taken.
According to board chair Lyra Evans, a minority group won’t prevent them from making a choice. The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board earlier this week decided against enforcing a mask requirement but approved a motion requesting that staff and students wear masks indoors.
Stephen Lecce, the minister of education for Ontario, says the government will respect parental decisions and that improvements to air ventilation have been made in all of the province’s schools.
