COVID-19 Outbreak at Hogarth Riverview Manor
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) along with St. Joseph’s Care Group Hogarth Riverview Manor have declared a COVID-19 outbreak at two locations of the Manor namely, 2 South – Bluebell Resident Home Area and 2 North Lavender Resident Home Area. In light of this development, several restrictions have been put in place affecting admissions, transfers, discharges, social activities, and visitation. These measures will be in effect until further notice.
Public Urged to Avoid Visits to High-Risk Areas
The TBDHU is advising the public to refrain from visiting hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other areas that pose a high risk, especially if they are unwell. This caution is aimed at preventing the transmission of infections to individuals who are more vulnerable and at a higher risk of severe outcomes.
Preventive Measures for the Public
In addition to the foregoing, the health unit is also providing advice to the public on preventive measures to curb the spread and contraction of infections. Among these measures are staying at home when feeling unwell, wearing a well-fitted mask indoors, particularly around vulnerable individuals or when recovering from an illness. Furthermore, keeping up-to-date with influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations, washing hands frequently for at least 20 seconds using soap and warm water, or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer are highly recommended. In scenarios where tissues are not available, it is suggested to cover coughs and sneezes with the upper sleeve.
Utilizing the Ontario Screening Tool
The TBDHU is encouraging the public to acquaint themselves with the Ontario screening tool. This tool enables individuals to self-assess and comprehend the next steps to take if they suspect they might be infected with COVID-19.
