Colonel Jorge Eduardo Naime, who was previously the commander of operations for the Military Police of the Federal District, testified today that the Army hindered the arrest of the coup plotters involved in the attacks on the buildings of the Three Powers on January 8th.
Naime gave his testimony to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of the Anti-democratic Acts of the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District. He has been in prison since February for allegedly failing to act in relation to the January 8th attacks.
Naime stated that the Military Police were prevented from arresting suspects who participated in the attacks and were in the camp located in front of the Army Headquarters. According to him, Army soldiers set up a barrier with tanks facing the Military Police and protecting the camp.
He classified the camp as the “epicenter of all coup acts” and mentioned that investigations had already revealed several irregularities within the camp, such as illegal trade and irregular renting of tents.
Naime also stated that the so-called “Mafia do Pix” operated within the camp, where supposed leaders asked people to make transfers via Pix to keep the camp running.
The president of the CPI, Chico Vigilante (PT-DF), questioned the former commander about the small number of military police officers employed to contain the coup act.
According to Vigilante, documents obtained by the CPI indicate that only 200 police officers, who were students of the training course, were called, while the rest of the troops were on standby.
Naime stated that he did not participate in the planning of the operation, as he was off duty at the time, but found it strange that only students were used.
He mentioned that the use of students was normal, but they were always accompanied by an experienced police officer.
Naime also said that the coup leaders in the camp lived in a “parallel world”, where they only consumed information provided by the groups present at the camp, and were in a kind of bubble.
He recounted an incident where someone approached him in the camp and claimed to be an extraterrestrial who was there to help take over once the Army took over.
