The Belgian citizens’ collective, Back on Track Belgium, has expressed support for the reintroduction of night trains, particularly the Brussels-Berlin route. Alexander Gomme, the group’s spokesperson, spoke in favour of the decision to extend the route to include Dresden in Germany and Prague in the Czech Republic starting from spring 2024.
Gomme emphasized the significance of Berlin as a crucial destination, enabling travelers to access other countries like Poland and the Czech Republic. European Sleeper, the Belgian-Dutch transport company, has officially announced this expansion, although it was not feasible this year due to ongoing railway works.
European Sleeper acknowledged that the Brussels-Berlin night train offers more than just direct access to these cities. It also facilitates attractive connections, including London-Berlin (via Eurostar in Brussels), Paris-Berlin (via Thalys in Brussels), and Brussels-Warsaw (via EuroCity in Berlin). The cooperative responsible for the night train service aims to launch a line to Barcelona by 2025.
