Algerian President Tebboune heads to New York for UN General Assembly session

The President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, departed from Algiers on Saturday for New York, where he will attend the 78th ordinary session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).
He will deliver a speech at the high-level meeting of the session and hold several bilateral and multilateral meetings with other world leaders and officials.
The President was seen off at Houari Boumediene international airport of Algiers by Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane, Chief of the General Staff of the People’s National Army, General Said Chanegriha and the Principal Private Secretary at the Presidency of the Republic Mohamed Ennadir Larbaoui. He was also greeted by a detachment of the Republican Guard that gave him the honors and played the national anthem.

President Tebboune to address global issues and challenges
The President of the Republic will participate in the works of the 78th ordinary session of the General Assembly of the UN, which is held under the theme “Building resilience through hope – to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalize the United Nations”.
The President of the Republic will deliver a speech at the high-level meeting of the session on Tuesday, September 21, in which he will present Algeria’s vision and position on various global issues and challenges, such as peace and security, development, human rights, climate change, and multilateralism.

The President of the Republic will also hold several bilateral and multilateral meetings with other heads of state and government, as well as representatives of regional and international organizations. He will discuss ways to enhance cooperation and coordination on matters of common interest and concern.
President Tebboune to represent Africa’s voice and interests
The President of the Republic will represent not only Algeria’s voice and interests, but also those of Africa, as he is currently holding the presidency of the African Union (AU) for 2021. He will advocate for Africa’s role and contribution in addressing global challenges and opportunities.
The President of the Republic will also highlight Algeria’s achievements and aspirations in various fields, such as democracy, governance, social justice, economic development, energy transition, digital transformation, and cultural diversity. He will showcase Algeria’s efforts and initiatives in promoting peace and stability in its region and continent.

The President of the Republic will also reaffirm Algeria’s commitment and support to the UN and its principles and values. He will call for strengthening multilateralism and international cooperation to achieve the goals and objectives of the UN Charter and Agenda 2030.
