Smuggling of thousands of liters of alcohol from Poland to Qatar was thwarted.

German customs officials thwarted the smuggling of 13,000 liters of brand name vodka and whiskey from Poland to Qatar.

The boxes of alcohol were hidden in a professionally prepared compartment in an industrial shredder, from which the entire mechanism was removed.

The contraband was discovered during a container inspection, which was being transported from Poland to the port of Hamburg. The operation took place in the vicinity of Berlin.

According to the shipping documents, the Polish driver was transporting a specialized industrial shredder. The cargo was supposed to go to Qatar.

Customs officials in Frankfurt an der Oder decided that they must take a closer look at the equipment. It cannot be ruled out that the inspection was not random, and that customs officials received a tip from Polish authorities about the planned smuggling.
