A bill has been presented in the parliament that empowers Bangladesh government to adjust gas and electricity tariffs without holding hearings.

The bill was placed by the State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid.

The bill has been sent to the parliamentary standing committee on the power ministry for review.

The committee has been given five working days to submit its report.

The bill amends the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Act 2003.

It gives the power ministry the authority to set new tariffs for gas and electricity without the need for a hearing.
