Increased Security Measures for Court Premises
In a distressing incident on Friday, Mehar court premises became the scene of a violent shooting as unidentified armed individuals opened fire. The incident occurred during a hearing of a case, where under-trial prisoners were brought for their proceedings. The gunmen entered the court premises and specifically targeted the prisoners who were present for the hearing.
Protecting the Rights and Safety of Under-Trial Prisoners
As chaos ensued, the indiscriminate gunfire claimed the lives of three under-trial prisoners, while a courageous police officer sustained bullet injuries in an attempt to protect the individuals present. The initial report did not provide any details regarding the identities of the deceased prisoners.
Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. In a separate but equally tragic event in Lahore, two individuals facing murder charges were shot and killed outside a sessions court. The victims, Riyasat and Bilal, were transferred from Kot Lakhpat jail to stand trial for the murder of a woman within the jurisdiction of Nishtar Colony police station.

These incidents underscore the urgent need for improved security measures within court premises and the protection of both prisoners and law enforcement officials.
