Residents of the 12 indigenous communities of this locality rose up against a non-indigenous family accused of selling marijuana and other home-made intoxicants.

The villagers set fire to the house of the alleged drug dealer and the police repressed them with plastic bullets and tear gas.

Community spokeswomen stated that they did not know if there were any detainees or how many people were injured, although they assured that there were more than ten, mainly women and children. There was also damage to police vehicles.

After the repression, the demonstrators ended up gathering again in the town's main square. A police officer sent from Tartagal arrived there and tried to calm things down by offering guarantees to take the complaints.

For some time now, the women of Ballivián have been calling attention to the free sale of drugs and alcohol to children in the communities.
