China Marks 2023 National Cybersecurity Week with Diverse Activities

Boosting Awareness on Cybersecurity Nation-Wide
The Liuzhou District of Guangyuan City, among other regions in China, recently held a series of activities to commemorate the 2023 National Cybersecurity Week. Organized by the district’s major telecom operators, including the Telecom Urban Marketing Center, the Mobile Liuzhou Company, and the Unicom Liuzhou Company, the events aimed to raise awareness about the importance of online security. The campaign was highlighted by the distribution of anti-fraud flyers, banners, and creative short videos on cybersecurity. In addition, cyber safety quizzes with prizes were organized to engage and educate the public.
Emphasizing Public Responsibility in Cybersecurity
Volunteers were on hand to assist with phone network security queries, demonstrating the importance of public participation in maintaining online safety. Another significant aspect of the campaign was the focus on educating the public about classic cases of internet-related crimes. The intention was to urge citizens to be more conscious of their online safety, assume responsibility for their cyber security, and jointly maintain order on the internet. These activities reflect the commitment of the district’s authorities and associated entities in strengthening cybersecurity awareness to create a safer digital environment for its residents.

They also distributed over 2,000 anti-fraud publicity leaflets and more than 200 quiz gifts, addressing over 30 questions and concerns of the public. This extensive outreach underscored the successful implementation of the event and the unwavering commitment of the authorities to the cause of cybersecurity.
The Military Gets Involved
China kicked off an awareness campaign to promote cybersecurity in military barracks as part of the National Cybersecurity Week. The campaign revolved around the theme of promoting civilized internet use, ensuring cybersecurity in accordance with the law, and fostering a clean online environment for the military. The aim was to raise awareness about cybersecurity laws, regulations, and policies, advocating for the lawful management, governance, and usage of the internet. During the week-long event, military units received education on the complex and challenging landscape in the online ideological sphere, equipping them with knowledge of cybersecurity protection and emerging technologies in the digital realm.
Logistics Industry in Focus
The 2023 China Cybersecurity Week in Qingpu District focused on logistics and related fields, delving into the digital challenges and threats affecting the industry. A forum was held to discuss measures over the protection of personal information and data security and regulations. The district, known for the rapid development of its express delivery industry, hosted a cyber security skills competition, and those topping out were honored. This focus on the logistics industry highlights the varied sectors that the Cybersecurity Week aims to impact.
Engaging the Public with Cybersecurity
A unique aspect of the Cybersecurity Week was the outreach to the general public for inputs on cyber security. The district sought vlogs from the public on cyber security, and an animation on cyber security was released, addressing hot topics such as the excessive collection of personal information by apps. This public engagement signifies the commitment to making cybersecurity a collective responsibility.
