Kidnappings and jihadist attacks

One of the main challenges facing Benin is the increasing insecurity caused by kidnappings, hostage taking, and jihadist attacks in the northern region. These violent acts have caused many casualties and disrupted the peace and stability of several communities. The Catholic Church condemned these crimes and offered its sympathy to the families of the victims. It also called on the government to intensify its efforts to restore security and protect the people.

Another problem that worries the bishops of Benin is cybercrime and scams that involve many young people who seek easy money. The Episcopal Conference of Benin deplored these illegal practices that damage the reputation and dignity of the country. It reminded the youth that "only constant and persevering work liberates man" and urged them to follow "the path of ethics and virtue, the fundamental foundation of human dignity".

High cost of living and taxation

The bishops of Benin also touched on the root causes of insecurity and cybercrime, such as the high cost of living and taxation that affect many households. They noted that the rise in the price of basic necessities and the heavy taxes imposed by the government have increased poverty and social inequalities. They appealed to the authorities to adopt more humane and fair policies that would improve the living conditions of the people.

The Catholic Church of Benin reaffirmed its commitment to contribute to the development and well-being of the nation through its pastoral, social, educational, and health activities. It also invited all stakeholders to work together for a more harmonious and prosperous society.
