Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro: A Gaming Powerhouse or Merely a Promise?

A Gaming-Ready Behemoth: The iPhone 15 Pro
Apple’s latest launch, the iPhone 15 Pro, has been touted as a high-octane powerhouse capable of handling AAA games and next-gen games. This claim was demonstrated by playing the game Resident Evil. The iPhone 15 Pro’s capabilities are attributed to its robust specifications, including Apple’s latest chipset, the A17 Pro Bionic, which comes with a 6-core CPU.
The 6-core CPU configuration includes two high-performance cores and six power-efficient cores. The new architecture ensures that the A17 Pro can deliver a performance-per-watt increase of 300 percent. On the GPU side, it offers performance that is 20 percent faster than the A16 Bionic chipset and also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing features.

Despite being declared as a gaming powerhouse, the iPhone 15 Pro hit a speed bump when running the game Genshin Impact. A test conducted by YouTuber TheRelaxingEnd revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro stuttered when playing the game at maximum settings and a frame rate of 60 FPS.
In his unboxing video, TheRelaxingEnd tested several games, one of which was Genshin Impact. A notification appeared during the gameplay, warning that the “current performance load is too high, which can cause excessive heat and serious lag.” This was confirmed when the game stuttered several times during play.
Overheating Processor: A Likely Cause
There is speculation that the stuttering issue during the Genshin Impact gameplay was due to the processor overheating too quickly, causing the clock speed to be limited to stabilize the temperature. However, it’s important to note that this issue was only observed with Genshin Impact. Other games tested, including GTA San Andreas, PUBG Mobile, Free Fire, Call of Duty Mobile, and others, ran smoothly even at maximum settings and a frame rate of 60 FPS.
Conclusion: A Gaming Powerhouse or a Promise?
The iPhone 15 Pro, with its A17 Pro Bionic chipset, promises to handle AAA and next-gen games. However, the device demonstrated stuttering and performance issues when running the game Genshin Impact at maximum settings and a frame rate of 60 FPS. The issue may be due to the processor overheating and limiting the clock speed to stabilize the temperature.
On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro managed to run other tested games smoothly even at maximum settings and a frame rate of 60 FPS. This suggests that while the device may struggle with certain high-performance games, it is still a competent device for gaming.
As Apple continues to innovate and improve its devices, it will be interesting to see how the iPhone 15 Pro evolves in its gaming capabilities and whether it can truly live up to its promise as a gaming powerhouse.
