
Virat Kohli Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar’s Records, Cements His Legacy in ODI Cricket

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has been breaking records and setting new ones in recent cricket matches. The batsman has displayed an exceptional performance, especially in one-on-one matches against Australia, where he scored 85 runs off 116 balls. This feat allowed him to surpass the record of Sachin Tendulkar, a legendary cricketer known as the ‘God of Cricket’, for the most runs in successful run chases in ODI cricket.
Surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s Records
Not only did Kohli surpass Tendulkar’s record in successful run chases, but he also managed to break another record held by Tendulkar for the most runs scored by an Indian in white-ball ICC tournaments. This achievement solidifies Kohli’s position as one of the leading cricketers in the international cricket scene. Kohli now boasts an impressive 13,000 ODI runs and stands on the threshold of equalling Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI hundreds, as he is just two centuries away.
Journey of Records and Achievements
Kohli’s journey of breaking records didn’t stop there. During the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup match against Pakistan, he completed 13,000 ODI runs, becoming the fifth player to reach this landmark in men’s ODIs. He achieved this milestone in just 267 innings, making him the fastest player to do so. Among the top five players, Kohli is the only one to average over 50 in ODIs.
During the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) Final between India and Australia, Kohli achieved another record by becoming the Indian player with the most runs in ICC knockout matches. He surpassed Tendulkar’s record and now stands with 68* runs in 18 innings in ICC knockouts. Furthermore, he broke another of Tendulkar’s records for the most runs scored by an Indian player in ICC tournaments during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup clash against Australia, with a tally of 2,720* runs, one more than Tendulkar’s record of 2,719 runs.
